Smart Waste Bins

RFID-based waste management uses bin tags attached to waste containers. Contactless communication between the RFID transponder and reader unit enables robust operation in dirty environments, thanks to protected mounting locations. This also allows for invisible integration into existing bin designs and simplifies process optimization.

Smart Waste Collection Vehicles

To detect the transponders, waste collection vehicles are equipped with RFID reader systems. These systems consist of a reader unit or reader board and a body or comb-lift antenna mounted at the rear of the vehicle. The collected data is transferred to the on-board computer for processing and billing.

The precise container identification serves as verifiable proof for the waste management operator, ensures seamless billing with households, and increases transparency in the disposal process.

RFID Readers for Collection Vehicles

TECTUS provides RFID solutions for waste management, especially for waste collection vehicles and waste bins equipped with RFID transponders. The LF (Low Frequency 125KHz / 134KHz) technology is ideal for digital waste tracking, as it is particularly resistant to interference from metal and liquids making it perfect for harsh environments like waste disposal operations.

TECTUS readers and boards are built to be exceptionally robust and can be easily integrated into existing systems via simple ASCII low-level communication. With support for up to three antenna inputs, onboard tuning, and automatic read mode, the readers are suitable for both OEM integration and retrofitting.

RFID Antennas for Waste Collection Vehicles: Durable Solutions for Waste Management

Durability and longevity were the guiding principles behind the new generation of comb-lift antennas developed by TECTUS. In addition to conventional plastic waste-truck antennas, TECTUS offers versions reinforced with stainless steel and antennas fully milled from solid stainless steel. Thanks to the Lumberg M12 connector and easy mounting, these antennas are ideal for retrofitting and likely the last antenna your vehicle will ever need.

Customers also benefit from the ongoing development of our antennas and their performance enhancements.

Large Container Tracking

Large containers present a challenge for many RFID systems in waste logistics. Unlike household bins, they often lack integrated chip nests and must be read from greater distances. TECTUS offers body antennas for mounting on container lifts as a solution. Thanks to the 3-channel reading capability of TECTUS readers and boards, a third reading unit can be added specifically for large containers alongside the standard bin-lift readers.

RFID Transponders for the Waste Management Industry

Only highly durable transponders are suitable for identifying waste containers reliably in harsh environments. TECTUS offers robust bin tags that are pressed into specially designed chip nests or drilled holes on the bins using barb-locking mechanisms. These positions are usually pre-defined by bin manufacturers at the grab points used by lifting arms.

LF (Low Frequency – 125/134KHz) transponders dominate, but HF (13.56 MHz) and UHF (868 MHz) are increasingly used. UHF is particularly suited to global markets with non-standardized bins, as its extended reading range compensates for varied tag placement.
